NEOCONSERVATISM IN CHILEAN EDUCATION: THE EMERGENCE OF ANTI-GENDER ACTORS IN THE PUBLIC DEBATE

ABSTRACT

The article analyzes, firstly, the notion of neoconservatism in Chilean education in order to understand its trajectory in recent decades in the context of the consolidation of a mercantile education project. Secondly, based a qualitative research that interviewed 15 actors in the public debate from different political positions, are identified the discourses of those actors resistant to the advancement of regulations on gender inclusion and sexual diversity. Based on the references, the article concludes that Chile is experiencing a resurgence of a conservative discourse on education, led by ultra-right conservative actors and evangelical groups. who criticize the progress of the debate on gender, sexuality and diversity in schools.
