EDUCATIONAL STUDY ON THE SOCIAL ADAPTATION OF IBERO-AMERICAN UNIVERSITY STUDENTS

ABSTRACT

This study aimed to analyze different behaviors (personal, academic, and social) in university students and their possible relationship with social adaptation. Participants were nine hundred forty-two university students from three Ibero-American countries (Brasil, Spain and México) of both sexes (79.7% women) with an average age of 23.04 years (SD=8.95). Results show an adapted social behavior in most students, even though 19% of the students are vulnerable to social maladjustment. In general, there was a greater social adaptation in Spanish and Brazilian students, in women, and in those who live with their families. These findings contribute to a better understanding of social (miss)adaptation in young university students concerning different personal, academic, and social aspects, with a view to its potential prevention or intervention, adjusted to the cultural idiosyncrasy of each country.
