PAULO FREIRE’S RELEVANCE AND THE LITERACY IN RURAL EDUCATION

ABSTRACT

In a bibliographical research, carried out in international virtual platforms, we highlighted Paulo Freire’s contributions in two directions: a) how his legacy has been evoked, since 1997, the date of his death, until July 2021, the year of his centennial, in different parts of the world; and b) how he is referenced in national and international articles dedicated to the literacy of people who live and/or work in the countryside. The first part of the research is quantitative and the second part is based on qualitative research, with content analysis. The results reveal that Freire continues to be a foundation and inspiration for research on different topics and in different places around the world, as well as that his contribution is effective for literacy in rural education.
