In France, Pierre Bourdieu's sociology has either been detested and ignored or venerated. Both attitudes are not suited to a healthy scientific life, which requires the recourse to argued and rational critic. Just as Pierre Bourdieu died, it seems urgent to think the critical continuations of his work in order to keep alive the scientific heritage he has left us. Three continuations are evoked here: the first one concerns his conception of intellectual work, the second one his dispositionalist theory of action (habitus theory) and the third one the way he thinks social differentiation (field theory).
