Open-access Damping of vereda and knowledge about the physical structure of shallow reservoirs to mitigate urban environmental impact.

ABSTRACT

The study of the changes that a given environment has undergone over time with the use and occupation of space is fundamental for understanding the characteristics found in the landscape. Thus, the objective of this work was to carry out a physical characterization of an urban aquatic system, in a space-time perspective, supporting a descriptive study. The description is based on Google Earth images from 2002 to 2019. The basin morphometric data was obtained using Google Earth. The volume of the reservoirs, the maximum depth, the average depth, the margin development index (Ds) and the volume development index (Dv) were calculated. The basin has a circular shape, low relief, and a completely waterproof extension, favoring the superficial and subsurface flow directly to the lowest point of the basin. The three reservoirs were classified as shallow systems. The Ds revealed that reservoir 3 has a shape tending to a circle and reservoir 1 has a triangular shape. The Dv, next to the bathymetric map, shows that reservoirs 1 and 2 have a slightly concave shape tending to a conical shape and reservoir 3 has a conical shape. The aquatic environments studied are the results of the damming of a river of the first order that is located in the lowest region of the basin, which directs the rainwater to the park and causes flooding due to the complete waterproofing by the asphalt. As they do not have riparian vegetation, these environments are susceptible to silting and eutrophication processes.
