In Brazil, the improper final disposal of useless tires has created significant environmental harm, mainly to the urban centers, making necessary the minimization of this type of materials. Based on that, the objective of this article is to analyze the current institutional actions, as well the technologies and its applications that are being used in the country, after CONAMA nº 258/99 and 301/02 resolutions implementation. This analysis has demonstrated that improvements are mandatory in several aspects, such as regarding the integration among the involved players, the enlargement of actual programs and the investments increase on new technologies in order to reduce the useless tires disposal and, therefore to avoid environmental problems for the future generations.
