The importance of creativity in school and in teaching practice

The main purpose of this study was to explore pedagogical coordinators' perception of the importance of teachers' development/expression of creativity, investigated by means of interviews with 12 *elementary school pedagogical coordinators from private schools in Brasilia, Federal District. The interviews were audio taped and transcribed. Content analysis was used to analyze the data. The results indicated that according to all coordinators, the presence of creativity in school life is very important, especially in teaching practice. According to the participants, the teacher must be creative mainly for reasons related to the students. The increase in the student's interest and incentive, the attribution of significance to knowledge, the facilitation of student's learning, as well as the attention to the student's educational needs were highlighted by the pedagogical coordinators to justify the importance of teachers' creativity.
