This study investigated the relationship between parents’ and children’s anxiety, taking into consideration gender and children’s age group differences in this relationship. Subjects were 50 children and 49 adolescents of both sexes, students of state schools of Porto Alegre, and their parents. To evaluate children’s anxiety, the translated Spielberger’s State-Trait Anxiety Inventory for Children was administered. The State-Trait Anxiety Inventory was used with the adolescents and the parents. Pearson’s correlations were used to verify the relationships between parents’ and children’s state-trait anxiety. The results suggest there are relationships between parent’s and children’s anxiety in these samples, with differences in relation to gender and children’s age group.
