The Maslach Burnout Inventory was projected to evaluate the Burnout Syndrome in workers. This article analyses the psychometric characteristics (reliability and construct validity) of the Maslach Burnout Inventory - Human Services Survey in a sample of 655 Brazilian workers. The factorial analysis identified three factors: Emotional Exhaustion, Low Professional Accomplishment, and Depersonalization. These three factors explained 55,69% of the total variation of the subject's answers. All of them have reached a satisfactory level of internal consistency, considering that the first Factor (Emotional Exhaustion) and the second (Low Professional Accomplishment) could function independently. Factor 3 (depersonalization), as its internal consistency was under .80, can not be considered as independent scale. However, this sub-scale contributes in an explanatory way to the comprehension about the Burnout Syndrome configuration in workers.
