Population structure and spatial distribution of Piptadenia gonoacantha (Mart.) J.F. Macbr.

Abstract

TThe structure and spatial distribution of a Piptadenia gonoacantha (Mart.) J.F. Macbr. (Fabaceae) population, as well as the influence of the canopy cover on the abundance of the natural regeneration, were studied in 30 plots of 100m2 (10m x 10m) in the Private Reserve (RPPN) Rio das Pedras, Mangaratiba, Rio de Janeiro State, Brazil. The distribution of the individuals classed according to size evidenced an “inverted J”. The population presented an aggregated spatial distribution pattern (Id = 2,00; P<0,05). The canopy cover level was not significantly related with the abundance of the natural regeneration (R2 = 0,060; P = 0,191).
