ABSTRACT
Decay resistance of two eucalypt species was estimated by using the accelerated laboratory test described on the ASTM D-2017-81 method. Samples of three trees of the two species were cut in the bark-to-pth and at one meter intervals along the trunk so that resistance variability could also be described. Both woodscan be considered highly resistant (weight loss between zero and 10% after 14 weeks of incubation with the fungus Gloeophyllum trabeum). Variation within the logs and between trees was small; one tree of each of the two species, however, showed a region surrounding the pith and a few meters high that was only moderately resistant.
