ABSTRACT
The Brazilian institucional framework - especially the Forest Code, the Law of the Environment and the Federal Constitution - assures that the forests are good of common interest to all the inhabitants of the country. In this context, this work discourses on the typical functions of State in the forest area, with sights to guarantee the collective benefits proceeding from the forest features. Examples are presented for each function, when available.
