Tannin contents in the bark of four pinus species

Abstract

The objective of this work was evaluate the potencial of barks from Pinus caribaea var. bahamensis, Pinus caribaea var. caribaea, Pinus caribaea var. hondurensis and Pinus oocarpa as source for tannin extraction. Tannim from the barks were extracted with pure water and with water and sodium sulphite (Na2SO3) and sodium carbonate (Na2CO3), at 2% and 5% . For the species P. caribaea var. bahamensis and P. oocarpa, the addition of 5% Na2SO3 or Na2CO3 yielded the higher contents in tannin. The bark of Pinus oocarpa presented the highest potential for tannin extraction.
