PRODUÇÃO DE MATA NATIVA NO ESTADO DORIO DE JANEIRO

SUMMARY

The wood prouction from native stands in Rio de Janeiro has as prime product fuelwood having the timber production in second and the charcoal production in the last place. Generally speaking the wood production from native forests is going down regardless the product type. According from the existent data the fuelwood production had a loss of more than 70% on a decade period. The timber production presented a 90% reduction on the period from 1960 to 1990. Similar fact happened with the charcoal production that falls from a production of 58.000 cubic meters to 5. 800 cubic meter in the same period. For non industrial purposes fuelwood comsumption is widely distributed in the state being concentred in the Vale do Paraiba Fluminense microregion wich shows a consumption of about 17.000 cubic meters. The charcoal comsumption for non industrial purposes is inexpressive. From the information it is possible to say that in a near future there will be no more wood production from native forests besides that informal low income population fuelwood consumption.
