ABSTRACT
If a coherent theory of reproductive resource allocation among plants is to be developed, it is critical that the effects of several aspects of seed size on seedling survivorship be evaluated. It is only possible to discern the value of a unit of reproductive energy as it is apportioned between propagules. Thus any complete theory of reproductive resource allocation in plants must account for the effects of selection on seed size in the establishment habitat of the seedling.
