Abstract
To attend this crescent demand, the tropical timber sawmills located at the Amazon region must have a quality control program of its productive process. Considering this issue, it was studied the work time in two band saws, using the Work Sampling Technique, at the company Cikel Brasil Verde S/A. This method is based on statistic to analyze the work performance and the machine utilization by snap reading. The results showed that the band saws spent 90% of the time sawing of Manilkara spp (maçaranduba) and Astronium lecointei (muiraquatiara) lumbers. The main problems that affect the saws were mechanic problems that can be associated with the machine exhaustion during the turn of work. The tolerance time was normal, considering that the values were lower than 5 and 20%.
