ALLELOPATHIC POTENTIAL OF Mimosa caesalpinaefolia Benth IN Tabebuia alba (Cham.) Sandw SEED GERMINATION

ABSTRACT

Allelopathic potential of Mimosa caesalpiniaefolia Benth -Mimosoidae-Leg., in seed germination of Tabebuia alba (Cham.) Sandw (Bignoniaceae) was studied using extracts of green and dry leaves prepared in concentration of 1:8; 1;16 and 1:30. Germination tests were installed with three replications of 20 seeds, at 25ºC. There was effect of concentration and leaf type to 1:16 and 1:32 inhibiting seed germination by green leaf, in special at 1:16. Results indicated a toxicity or possible allelopathic interaction for green leaves, independent of extract concentration, delaying or inhibiting germination of Tabebuia alba seeds.
