Comparative Anatomy of Vochysia Tree Wood

ABSTRACT

The purpose of the present work was to compare the anatomical structure of three species of Vochysia (Vochysiaceae family) that occur in the State of Espirito Santo, Brazil. The studied species presented color variation on heartwood; all species had medium density and diffuse porosity with solitary and multiple pores in the radial and diagonal arrangements. The axial parenchyma varied among the species. The rays were predominantly multi-seriate comprising homocels and heterocels. The fibers were commonly libriform with thin to thick walls. The parenchyma, rays and vessels characteristics are very useful in the separation of the studied species at the genus level.
