ANTIBIOSE E TOXIDEZ DE EXTRATOS DE CAULE DE VERNONIA SCORPIOIDES (Lam.) Pers. (ASTERACEAE).

ABSTRACT

In order to identify bioactive compounds against the nephrotoxic mycotoxin producer fungi Penicillium citrinum, two extracts, obtained from stalksof of Vernonia scorpioides, were studied. Antibiosis assays were doneat the concentrations of 1. 0,3.0 and 5.0 g / 0.1 ml of diluent. It was determined 40.0. 50,0 and 80.0 mm broadness for the inhibition halos of each assayed concentration, respectively. These results are suggestive of a fungicide activity, once neither one subculture could be achieved when the treated materials were cultivated in a freed of inhibitors Czapeck-Dox medium. These active extracts were also assayed for toxicity in albino mice, showing no interference on their general aspects or body-weight gam 6 days after the oral administration. The infrared spectroscopy of the bioactive extracts showed a charaderistic absorptionofladone carbonyls ( between 1750 cm-1 and 1770 cm-1), also suggesting that sesquiterpeneladones were the main produd in the bioadive extracts.
