PINUS TAEDA PARTICLE SIZE VALUATION MIXED WITH COMMERCIAL RESIN TO PARTICLEBOARDS MANUFACTURE

ABSTRACT

In this work was evaluated the Pinus taeda particle size mixed with commercial resin to particleboard manufacture. Particleboards were made from two size particles (particles that went through a screen with mesh of 4,37mm in size and was hold in a screen with mesh of 0,61 mm in size (particle A); and particles that went through a screen with mesh of 2,00 mm in size and was hold in a screen with mesh of 0,61 mm in size (particle B)). The resin content was 8% (dry weight base) to ureaformaldehyde and phenol formaldehyde. The evaluated properties were static bending, internal bond and thickness swelling, by ASTM D-1037 standard. Particleboards made from small size particles (particle B) showed bigger internal bond, while particleboards made from bigger size particles (particle A) showed increasing static bending. Particleboards made from phenol-formaldehyde resin showed better properties of static bending. Better results in thickness swelling was obtained by particleboards made from phenol-formaldehyde resin and particles A.
