BIOLOGY AND LEAF CONSUMPTION BY Urbanus esmeraldus Butler (LEPIDOPTERA: HESPERIIDAE) OF THREE SPECIES OF LEGUMINOSAE FAMILY

ABSTRACT

The biology and leaf area consumption of Urbanus esmeraldus (Butler) (Lepidoptera: Hesperiidae) was available in Centrosema pubescens Benth., Clitoria fairchildiana How., Galactia striata Jacq. and in alternate food with Centrosema pubescens and Clitoria fairchildiana. The study was conducting in Laboratory of Forest Entomology from the Forest Institute from Universidade Federal Rural do Rio de Janeiro. The average temperature during the experiment was 23,7 0C + 1,43 0C, and RU 74,3% + 13,75%. The following biological parameters were appraised: larval and pupal period, longevity and life cycle, as well as the weight for development phase. The feeding interfered in the gain of weight of the larval and pupal phases. U. esmeraldus feed with Galactia striata forage did not complete life cycle.
