SEASONAL VARIATION OF SCOLYTIDAE IN A NATURAL FOREST COMMUNITY AT SEROPEDICA, RJ, BRAZIL

ABSTRACT

The aim of this study was to investigate the seasonal variation of Scolytidae species found at the EMBRAPA agroecological farmer. Two etanol trapping systems, developed by Marques-Ped rosa and Carvalho 47 were used and placed at 1,30 m of height. The attractive was changue after each harvest. The samples were collected weekly between October 1993 and November 1994. 609 insects were collected and distributed amoung seven genera, nineteen species and three were not yet identified. Hypothenemus eruditus Westwood, 1836 was the dominant specie (27,59%) followed by H. obscurus (Fabricius), 1801 (19,21 %) a nd Xyleborus affinis Eichhoff, 1867 (17,08%). During November and December higher numbers of insects were observed. Cryptocarenus hevea (Hagedorn), 1912 e H. bolivianus (Eggers), 1931 showed the population peak at February, X. affinis at December and X. hagedoni Iglesias, 1914 at July and August.
