PRODUCTION OF VENNER REINFORCED ORIENTED STRAND BOARD - “COM-PLY”

ABSTRACT

This work was developed aiming to evaluate the effects of strands orientation and veneer inclusion on the physical and mechanical properties of the boards. The boards were manufactured with density of 0,70 g/ cm3 and face to core ratio of 50:50, using phenol-formaldheyde resin. The values of MOE and MOR of the oriented strandboards were significactivelly high in comparison to no-oriented strandboards. The veneer inclusion in the non-oriented strandboards contributed to increase in MOE and MOR on the axial direction of the board and decrease on the cross direction. The veneer inclusion on the oriented strandboard did not contribute significactivelly to increase of MOE and MOR. The effects of strands orientation and veneer inclusion did not increase significativelly the water absorption. On the other hand, the veneer inclusion contributed to reducing of thickness sweeling.
