DRYING EFFECT, AT 100OC, ON Pinus taeda L. PIT MEMBRANES

ABSTRACT

This work has the purpose to verify the wood drying effects, at 100oC, on pit membranes of Pinus taeda L., which can modify the wood permeability. Wood blocks were made at 2,0 x 2,0 x 2,5 cm dimensions. After room and 100oC temperatures’ drying, oriented anatomical cuts were carried out to analyse the high temperature effects on pit membranes. The drying at 100oC presented an increase of damage of pit membranes. Consequently, the wood permeability can. Moreover, the wood drying at room temperature presented a few and restricted damaged pit membranes. It was observed the starch presence in the respective samples at room temperature’s drying.
