This theoretical study examines the male's unconfortable position in the contemporary world since Freud and Lacan's theory. It is associated with an identity crisis due to the representations, based on the Oedipus context and on an idealization of paternal function, with which the social imaginary defines virility. Discussing the implications of the decline of the father in the formation of masculinity, it shows how changes in the conceptions on the father, thought no more according to a tradition but on his ability to cope with the desire for a woman, have consequences on the construction of a male son position.
