Agrofinancialization of the sugar-energetic sector in the state of Minas Gerais

Abstract

The objective of the article is to analyze the agro-financialization of agriculture in the State of Minas Gerais, focusing on the sugar-energy sector, in the era of capital globalization, considering the flow of capital and derivatives from sugarcane crops. The expansion of the sugar-energy sector in Brazil and its internationalization in the era of globalization of capital. This economic phenomenon is driven by the logic of commodity production and results in the productive reconfiguration of the territory, generating new agricultural uses. In this context, the concept of agro-financialization becomes relevant, as it refers to the financialization of the agricultural sector, that is, the transformation of agricultural assets into financial instruments. In the specific case of the sugar-energy sector, this means the transformation of sugar cane into commodities that are traded worldwide and attract capital flows.
