This article describes and analyzes the case of a Brazilian telecommunications company, GTV, in the application of information technology resources to support the integration of its business processes, particularly those related to its operation. The case study involves the planning, developmental and operational phases of a solution for integrating information systems (IS) environments by means of an integration layer that incorporates a data message management system. The solution in question integrates ISs and coordinates the automatic sequencing and sending of messages, thereby meeting the operational requirements of the business processes. In this broader context, this solution is called Business Process Integration (BPI). This paper adds value by describing and analyzing one of the few significant Brazilian experiences in BPI implementation. By significant we mean a real corporate case, i.e., one that has integrated a variety of complex and critical ISs into the business, and whose implementation occurred two years ago, allowing sufficient time for more consistent analyses.
