Information architecture and performance measurement: a study of the plastics industry in the state of São Paulo

This study aimed to verify whether organizational performance implies different configurations of the information architecture, measured from a set of 16 attributes which were defined in line with the approach discussed by Davenport (1998) and McGee e Prusak (1994). The organizational performance was defined according to the Balanced Scorecard model proposed by Kaplan e Norton (1997). A structured questionnaire based on the Likert Scales was applied at 61 plastic manufacturers in the state of São Paulo in 2003. The results suggest that companies showing higher performance levels appear to focus greater attention on the development of their information architecture than those with lower levels of performance. A detailed analysis of some of the attributes revealed important factors which deserve special attention on the part of companies in the plastics industry.
