The objective of this study is to statistically analyze and control an industrial process in which the Shewhart style control chart is used. Through an axiomatic quantitative research, several options of application are evaluated, such as the use of the CUSUM control chart individually or a combined Shewhart-CUSUM chart probabilistically combined. At the same time, R language scripts were developed to calculate the control limits for the CUSUM control chart using Siegmund's (1985) approximation and the construction of the combined CUSUM-Shewhart chart. The results show that the application of both the CUSUM and the combined Shewhart-CUSUM charts enabled the detection of interferences in the process that were not detected by the Shewhart chart alone. Therefore, it can be said that the CUSUM chart either individually or combined with the Shewhart chart is an effective preventive tool for quality control. The results obtained can be useful for researchers and for production engineering professionals who focus on understanding the CUSUM chart parameters and applying it to industrial processes that adopt only the Shewhart charts.
