Evaluating the knowledge of insecticide's labels by growers from an agricultural area in Distrito Federal, Brazil

Several programs of insecticide resistance management are being proposed by chemical and agricultural research companies. But, to manage insecticides it is fundamental that growers understand the label of those products. In order to verify if that occurs, growers from a rural area in the Distrito Federal were interviewed. The results showed that the red line on the label that means "dangerous insecticide" was unknown by 23% of them. No one knew the meaning of the terms "active ingredient" or "chemical group". Also, 80% of the growers didn´t know if there was a difference between Tamaron® and Hamidop®. With those results, it was clearly shown that it is necessary to increase the knowledge of insecticide's labels in the area before the development of programs of insecticide resistance management.
