EDITOR'S LETTER
Dearest,
Horticultura Brasileira is here again. Our cover is once more committed to the International Year of Biodiversity. In this issue, our dear Associate Editor, Prof. Antonio Amaral Júnior, comments on the importance of the conservation of germplasm, and thus, of biodiversity. The image on the cover comes from Dr. Rosa Lia Barbieri, who, among several other responsibilities, has been working hard on the theme.
We have reasons to celebrate. And to celebrate a lot! After two years of international indexing, we finally knew our first Impact Factor at the Journal of Citation Reports: 0.312. Although moderate, it is significant when we consider that (1) it is our very first figure and (2) a high ratio of our articles are written in Portuguese and therefore not fully available to everybody. The Impact Factor is above our expectations, which surely indicates that the editorial policy we adopted, based on scientific relevance, transparency and editorial responsibility, is correct. At the same time, the Impact Factor indicates that there is still a long way to go. Join us in this journey!
Still talking about the Impact Factor, we received some messages asking about a statement we made at the Editor´s Letter published at the previous issue. Hence, I would like to reinforce that indeed "citations from a journal in the same journal do count for the impact factor. In other words, when a paper published in Horticultura Brasileira cites other(s) paper(s) published in Horticultura Brasileira, then the paper is contributing to increase Horticultura Brasileira's Impact Factor".
Finally, I would like to affirm that Horticultura Brasileira, under no circumstances, makes any comments about anonymous criticism. On the other hand, true criticism is necessary, very welcome and received always as a precious contribution to the journal.
