In 1996, a field experiment was carried out at the Centro de Ciências Agrárias, of University Federal of Paraíba, Areia, Brazil, to identifty the performance of tomato hybrids in Areia conditions. The experiment was laid out in a complete randomized block design with four replications. The treatments consisted of four tomato hybrids (EF-50, EF-49, EF-52 and Saladinha) and two cultivars (San ta Adélia Super and IPA-5). The hybrids EF-50 (70.05 t/ha), EF-52 (67.05 t/ha), EF-49 (59.95 t/ha) and Saladinha (50.20 t/ha) were not significantly different while EF-50 was the most productive. The hybrids EF 50 (322.5 g) and EF-52 (290 g) showed high fruit weight. The hybrids EF-52 (7.50), EF-49 (7.50) and Saladinha (7.25) revealed high cluster number per plant, and EF-52 (6.60) and EF-49 (5.81) produced high numbers of fruits per cluster.
