This note explores some aspects of conducting research at a laboratory for the research and technological development of new vaccines. The note synthesizes part of a chapter of my doctoral dissertation, entitled "Diário de uma Pesquisa" (Diary of a research study). The idea of the diary is, in part, to show how the field research was conducted, and it underscores the personal experience of working in a laboratory, conversations and interviews with researchers and technical staff, and the process of learning about the work and the technology used. Since my interest is the social studies of science and technology, I have based the study on a dense description of these laboratory spaces.
