Abstract
This article deals with the use of the preface as a recognition strategy for the writer Mariana Coelho (1857-1954) in the cultural and intellectual environment of Curitiba and the Brazilian capital (Rio de Janeiro). This analysis will be based on the preface of two of her works, namely: The Paraná mental (1908) and The evolution of feminism: subsidies for Its history (1933). It is based on the discussions of Pierre Bourdieu (1987, 1996a, 1996b, 2004, 2007) and Jean-François Sirinelli (1996) in order to explain how the preface was used, among a set of strategies, in the process of insertion of Mariana Coelho in the literary universe of Paraná and in the Brazilian feminist intellectual field.
