TEXTBOOKS AS TOOLS TO PROMOTE THE ITALIAN NATIONAL IDENTITY IN BRAZIL IN THE EARLY YEARS OF FASCISM (1922-1925)

Abstract

At the beginning of the 1920's in Italy, between the crisis of liberal institutions and the rise of Fascism, new textbooks were produced for Italian schools abroad so as to support the revival of the politics for the defence of Italian cultural identity abroad. This contribution intends to illustrate the events that led to the publishing of school books for elementary schools, written by Alarico Buonaiuti, Francesco Pasciuti and Giovanni di Giusto, which were destined to be circulated in Brazil; as well as to provide an analysis of the educational models introduced and proposed by the new editorial production which had been brought about by the Italian authorities.
