“TALK LITTLE AND DO A LOT”: THE CAMPAÑAS DE EDUCACIÓN POPULAR - AN INITIATIVE OF THE UNIVERSITY WORK SERVICE FOR SPANISH UNIVERSITIES (1962-1968)

ABSTRACT

This paper focuses on the study of the so-called “Campañas de Educación Popular” (CEP) in which 2,800 students from different Spanish universities participated from 1962 to 1968. This educational project can be analyzed as a pioneer university social extension initiative in Spain, which sought to narrow the distances between the university setting and the workers. At the same time the CEP, which had the support of the power structures of the Franco regime, meant an impulse to modernize Spanish society through educational programs during the 1960s.
