For a strict and illustrated discipline: inspection in the capital of the empire

This article analyzes the procedures handled to supervise primary school teachers, through the study about the inspection service of education in the Brazilian Imperial Court, from the education reform established by the Regulation of Primary and Secondary Education of the Court in 1854. The research aimed at discussing how the visibility given to the school and its characters, through inspection, allowed to insert them in a disciplinary scheme, whose effects are articulated and justified in the name of a project to order and civilize the society.
