Cultural translations of the book How to Think in the Collection Atualidades Pedagógicas (1933-1981)

The objective of this work is the analysis of the meaning changes on the translation of John Dewey's How to Think in each one of the four versions, published in the Coleção Atualidades Pedagógicas, by the Companhia Editora Nacional, thru the Twentieth Century. The editorial and printing special style typefaces added in each of the versions are used to perform this study. The collection is taken as a cultural object that keeps its production and usage boundaries, understood as editing diffusion strategies of pedagogical knowledge and school practices standards. This collection was used at training colleges, included in libraries of Pedagogy, Education, Psychology and Teaching superior and technical level schools. This collection had strong influence on teaching practices and on the process of pedagogical culture constitution, beside the teaching training practices in Brazil, on the decades of its circulation.
