Abstract
The article describes the first Argentine children's magazine “La estrella matutina” (Córdoba, Argentina, 1867-1868) and analyzes some contextual variables of its publication. Our main hypothesis argues that on this magazine are highlighted the tensions between Catholic Church and the intellectual managers of the liberal and secular state in the debate for the control and rule of national education. This magazine is also an important document to study the beginnings of the implantation of an ordering discourse of citizen behavior, since it was published during the cholera epidemic that struck several cities (including Córdoba) during those months.
