Abstract
The article presents a study on the organization of the secular church in the old captaincy of Porto Seguro at the end of the colonial period. It analyzes the context of expansion of the ecclesiastical network in the 18th century, highlighting the relationship of this phenomenon with the transfer between the reformist Tridentine policies present in the Constitutions of the Arzobispado of Bahia and the indigenous Pombaline policies. It also contributes to the identification of parishes, forces and chapels that establish the presence and dynamics of the secular church in the territory that conforms the current extreme over Bahia.
