ABSTRACT
The present article intends to study and to know better the history of relations between ethnic groups in immigration societies. The study tries to analyze the process of differentiation and daily relations between immigrants, blacks and white Brazilians in the city of Rio Claro, in the West of São Paulo, in the last years before Abolition and in the first decades immediately after that event (1887-1914).
