Survey of bryophytes on the Pessegueirinho trail, Curitibanos, Santa Catarina State, Brazil

ABSTRACT

The Pessegueirinho trail is a forest with mixed Ombrophilous vegetation within the domain of the Atlantic Forest. It is located in the municipality of Curitibanos, next to the campus of Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina. This study aimed to survey the bryophytes on the Pessegueirinho trail. The collections were carried out between the years 2016 to 2020, with bryophytes collected on all available substrates such as soil, tree trunks, and rocks. The collections were georeferenced and photographed in loco, with additional images taken in the coupled camera of the stereomicroscope. As result, 352 specimens were collected in the study area, and 109 species were identified (82 mosses, 25 liverworts, and two hornworts), of which 26 are new occurrences for the Santa Catarina State. The families of mosses with the most diversity was Sematophyllaceae (nine spp.), followed by Fissidentaceae (eight spp.) by Dicranaceae, and Orthotrichaceae (both with six spp.). In liverwort, the family with the greatest number of species was Lejeuneaceae (six spp.).
