Diversity and fungal quality of the air at the Casa Museo Polo Montañez, Artemisa, Cuba

ABSTRACT

The study of the aeromicobiota of museums contributes to the conservation of the materials that are stored there and to the prevention of allergic diseases in visitors. The objective of this work was to determine the fungal diversity and quality of the air in the Polo Montañez House Museum by means of a non-viable volumetric methodology. The ratio between the fungal concentrations of the indoor and outdoor air was calculated to assess its quality. In addition, an ecological analysis of the detected fungi was carried out. The indoor air quality of the rooms was good and the similarity between the indoor and outdoor taxa was verified. The Aspergillus/Penicillium sporal type stood out for its abundance in the indoor air and the Cladosporium sporal type outdoors. Of the mycobiota detected 12 genera are reported with biodeteriorant properties and nine allergenic. The four sporal types identified can manifest both potentialities.
