Nitophyllum adhaerens (Ceramiales, Delesseriaceae), a new occurrence in the Brazilian coast

During studies of Rhodophyta from the infralitoral of Espirito Santo State specimens of Nitophyllum adhaerens M.J. Wynne were found in 6 meters depth. The specimens were studied in detail and compared with morphologically similar species. The most important characteristics of this species are the delicate monostromatic leafy thalli without midribs or veins, marginal rhizoids and tetrasporangial sorus located near the margins. This is the first occurrence of Nitophyllum adhaerens in the Brazilian coast.
