The aim of this study was to describe the conditions of vulnerability to HIV among older people. Using the thematic oral history method, we conducted a qualitative study in the SAE with six people aged 65 and over. The data were collected using in-depth interviews covering issues related to individual, social and programmatic vulnerabilities. The data were analyzed using content analysis. Vulnerability conditions included not using a condom, low level of knowledge of appointments and tests and health-seeking behavior; prejudice and discrimination; family break-ups; late diagnosis of HIV; and limited capacity of health teams. To tackle these vulnerability conditions, it is necessary to promote a debate about policies and regulations geared towards the care of people with HIV and reshape the prevention-based care model.
