Nurse education by means of active teaching and learning methodologies: influences on the professional activity

The objective of this study was to investigate the influence of the pedagogical proposal of the Nursing School of the Federal University of Pelotas, characterized by the use of active teaching and learning methodologies, on graduates’ professional activity. A qualitative exploratory research was carried out with twenty graduate nurses who experienced the curricular change and had a direct bond with healthcare. Data were collected by means of a self-administered questionnaire and were analyzed through thematic analysis. The graduates reported having experienced the articulation between theory and practice and having exercised critical and reflective thinking, which contributed to the decision-making process and emphasized humanized care practices, as well as academic research and writing practices. The pedagogical proposal in the Nursing School has educated ethical, critical and reflective professionals aligned with the principles of the National Curricular Guidelines for Nursing.
