Formative feedback and medical student learning in pediatrics: a narrative literature review

Formative feedback is central to medical education. However, studies on the application of the technique in pediatrics are scarce. We conducted a narrative literature review to understand how feedback can be incorporated into medical student training in pediatrics. Searches of the MEDLINE, LILACS, SciELO, Embase, Scopus and Web of Science databases resulted in the selection of 13 articles focusing on feedback and pediatrics graduate students published between 1986 and 2020. The findings highlight the usefulness of multiple-source feedback and importance of tools such as forms and clinical meeting cards for providing feedback on necessary pediatrician skills. The articles paid little attention to feedback with the help of the internet, which should be the theme of future studies.
