Analysis of the public servants socialization process of the Federal University of Piauí

Abstract:

The study analyzed the influence of the aspects of service time, functional category, placement, and socialization tactic on the organizational adjustment of the new servants of the Federal University of Piauí, using a quantitative method with a population of 453 servants and a random probabilistic sample of 193 participants. For the data collection, it was applied the Chao et al. (1994)CHAO, G. T.; O’LEARY-KELLY, A. M.; WOLF, S.; KLEIN, H. J.; GARDNER, P. S. Organizational socialization: its content and consequences. Journal of Applied Psychology, Washington, v. 79, n. 5, p. 730-43, 1994. COOPER-THOMAS, H. D.; ANDERSON, N. Organizational socialization: a new theoretical model and recommendations for future research and HRM practices in organizations. Journal of Managerial Psychology, Bingley, v. 21, n. 5 p. 170-93, 2006. scales to measure the level of socialization, and the information was analyzed through inferential and correlational descriptive statistics. The research followed ethical standards in all its phases. The results showed a positive influence of the factors time of service and socialization tactics on the functional adjustment of the surveyed servants indicating the necessity to adopt intensified actions in the first years of service of the public servants and the imperative application of appropriate adjustment tactics to increase the level of success and socialization of these professionals in their activities in the public service.
