Ethnozoology and conservation of the jaguar (Panthera onca) in Brazil

Abstract:

The objective of this study was to analyse published information regarding the forms of interaction, perceptions and attitudes of Brazilians regarding the jaguar. We found 39 manuscripts related directly or indirectly to ethnozoology, perceptions and attitudes of Brazilians about this feline. Environmental education can contribute significantly to changing the negative perceptions and attitudes observed, guaranteeing the conservation of the jaguar and its habitats in Brazilian territory.
