Abstract:
The present article intends to identify the process of “choosing the legacy”, understood from the “receiving” moment of the gift cycle in Mauss theory, in people who are dedicated to the creation and maintenance of cultural institutions in a city in the interior of Minas Gerais. Interviews were conducted with three subjects, seeking to understand their life stories and their relationship with cultural processes. We identified that the choice process occurs from two moments: the first, from the act of “receiving” specific cultural activities in childhood, usually marked by figures of admiration and identification by the subject, and the second moment in early adulthood, in which the link with cultural processes is articulated with professional activities.
